Studio Ghibli Inspired Art
I’m looking out of my window and the sun is glistening away, the sky is super clear and the weather is just beautiful- spring is here saying hello to us all. It’s nice to watch the world go by through my attic window, or should I say, looking at how still my surroundings are. Despite the lockdown, I’m beginning to appreciate what it means to have our freedom restricted; I’m so used to going out that the thought of being cooped in for three weeks is getting me down. I’ve decided to use this time instead to channel it into my artwork and the first thing that popped into my head was Studio Ghibli. For ages, I’ve always wanted to do some fan art and now is the time to start it!
It’s my own mish-mash of our cats and Studio Ghibli- I think they work rather well together! I’m planning on doing some more next week as it’s been quite fun to do something to take my mind off things. Also, NTS Radio have three shows dedicated to the beautiful music of Studio Ghibli if you’re looking for some serene and gentle music to pass the time away. If that’s not enough you should definitely listen to Ghibliotheque which is a podcast dedicated to all things Ghibli. They had a talk a few weeks ago at The Moth Club in Hackney which was Z-A of Studio Ghibli (I can’t seem to find the podcast for it though). That said, Netflix have the whole catalogue online now so binge away everyone!
On that note, I’m going to end my post here with some music from Joe Hisaishi- this has to be one of my favourite tracks. This is from My Neighbour Totoro ‘Path of the Wind’ (I walked down the aisle to this!!!).

A Nevada veterinarian who disappeared days after a clip of him abusing a horse went viral has
vanished and is feared to have drowned.
Authorities are currently searching the waters of Lake
Mead for Dr Shawn Frehner, 8News Now reports.
Frehner was filmed kicking a horse named Red in the head as he tried to administer anesthetic shots to the animal on Thursday.
The distressing attack was caught on camera by Red’s owner Shawna
Gonzalez, who runs a rescue center in Pahrump.
She contacted Nye County Animal Control which referred her to the local sheriff’s office where she filed a complaint.
Frehner took to Facebook to post an apology video over the weekend, which appears to have since disappeared along with the veterinarian.
Multiple agencies are now searching the Lake Mead National Recreation Area
for any sign of him.
‘It’s horrible, I never, ever wished this upon him, I never wished this upon anybody’ Gonzalez said.
‘This is not what I wanted in the end at all.’
Dr Shawn Frehner has disappeared after video of him kicking a horse at a Nevada rescue center went
viral
The veterinarian was caught attacking the animal during a visit on Thursday
She explained that her daughter began recording Frehner after being concerned by how tightly he appeared to have wound a rope around her colt’s
neck.
‘I heard [my mother] yell, ‘Oh my God. He just kicked him’,’ Gonzalez said.
‘He wrapped the horse around his neck three
times, and he kicked him in the head.
‘I had started having a severe anxiety attack and couldn’t breathe
myself.
‘I was already on the ground, and my daughter picked up the phone and hit record,
and that’s when she got him on videotape, kicking him.’
The animal was left with abrasions to the skull and taken to Desert Pines Equine Center.
‘[Frehner] left my property before my horse was even up,’ Gonzalez added.
‘My horse was still down for a good 45 minutes after he left and before he left, there’s several
people that were there, and even they can state that he was kind of in a
rush off my property.’
In his apology, Frehner reportedly stated that the video did not provide the full context.
Frehner apologized but admitted that he kicked the horse in the chin
‘I did not blatantly haul off and kick this horse as it appears in the video.
That was not my intention at all,’ Frehner wrote,

‘It was done simply to get the horse in a better position so that he could breathe and
get up and move so I could again try to anesthetize.’
‘But yes I did kick him right in the chin and
I very much do apologize and wish this never happened,’ he
wrote.
Search teams were dispatched to the lake on Monday and plan to continue searching today.
It is unclear if officials think Frehner met an accident or
if he may have taken his own life.
Gonzalez said that she had been using Frehner’s services since
last August.
She revealed that the vet bills for Red are likely to run into the thousands and
requested donations to Desert Pine Rescue Center.
‘The abuse and cruelty my horse suffered on 4/3/2025 was inhumane, disgusting,
appalling, and the most hurtful thing and
from the hands of vet that I trusted and Red trusted,’ she wrote shortly
after the incident.
Frehner’s website states he received his Doctor
of Veterinary Medicine-DVM degree from Ohio State University in 1997 and began his equine business the year after.
Red was left with abrasions to his skull and sent
for treatment at Desert Pines Equine Center
Authorities are now searching the Lake Mead Recreation Area, sources confirmed to News8 Now
He claims he, ‘provides state-of-the-art medical care for your four-legged companions’.
‘He believes in nurturing the human-animal bond and
creating a harmonious relationship between people and animals,’ according to the site.
