Sam and I spent six days in Berlin and I was looking forward to getting away from London for a bit! I’m a learning support assistant at a school in Waterloo, which means I get school holidays, which is pretty sweet. I currently have two weeks off so we decided to go away for a couple of days.

We stayed at our friend’s flat, Till, in Kreuzberg and spent the next couple of days exploring Berlin, plus drinking loads of coffee and checking out bars and pubs (of course). Till and his girlfriend gave us an extensive list of where to go to eat, shop and drink- the list was pretty spot on too!

I found Berlin to be an incredibly exciting city to be in. Compared to London, it’s so much more laid back and everyone seems to be so chilled out. I find London incredibly exhausting at times, whereas in Berlin I didn’t feel that at all. The streets felt quite empty as well, but perhaps that’s because the roads and pavements are so much more wider. Either way, most of the time we were on foot, depending on where we were going, and I really enjoyed just walking around and taking everything in.

I had an amazing time in Berlin and would love to go back again!

Berlin

Yesterday my parents and I took a trip up north to visit Sam’s folks for the day. Our first stop was Dave’s pottery studio located in Newcastle Arts Centre. His studio like a treasure trove of beautiful handmade ceramics.

My mum and I had a go at making plates and they turned out alright! Bearing in mind the last time I did ceramics was at college about six years ago, which mainly involved messing around with chunks of clay. Dave’s demonstration made it look really easy… when it was our turn, er, we needed a little bit of help from him!

Finished Plates

Ta-da! The end results! My plate is on the far right… Kind of wonky looking! But I like the spiral shape in the middle and the circular marks around the plate as it gives it a handmade feel to it.

Afterwards, we met up with Barbara and Shoz for afternoon tea at the Jesmond Dene House. Unfortunately, there are no photographic evidence as we pretty much demolished everything.

Too cute, right??

And here’s Darcy, Barbara’s dog. I think he made an appearance in my blog about a year ago. Isn’t he just lush??!!

Anyway, I better start packing as I’m going to Hong Kong this Sunday!!

dog_jumble-sales

We went to Amersham Arms Jumble Sale at New Cross and i found some cool things plus I had a yummy chocolate cup cake which I was supposed to give up for lent but managed to forget it, oh well I’ll have to extend it for another day or so……. I bumped into Leona from Lady Luck Rules (I did a placement there last year) and it was so nice to see her again! Oooo I  like cheap things and yes had to restrain myself from buying everything, will be there again next month. I want to find more jumble sales or bric a brac car boot sales….erm…does anybody know any places around London???? Then went to an amazing warehouse/cheap outlet type shop at Canada Water. Reminds me of being back at home and Yes bought even more tacky things.

All in all it was a good day filled with pretty, plastic and tasteless stuff.

kinetica

I’ve been busy doing stuff for other people and not had the proper time to focus on my major project…ooops, it’s gona be long nights with coffee and Red Bull! I’ve really been enjoying my placement with Gia london helping them to design new pages for their website and it’s going well 🙂 plus using lush fabrics for the work too which has been fun.

We went to the Kinetica Art Fair last Saturday at P3 (Baker st) and there were some amazing stuff with art, sound and light fused together. There where some really beautifal pieces, the bird/arms work (see above) was creepy! It kept on moving very slowly in a jaunty way (i shudder…)Well worth checking out the website anyways.

We will also be having our degree show there in the Summer-ish so watch this space.xx
