Blog

Hello! Hope you’re all good despite the rain! This past week has been slightly cray cray (love using that word at the moment). I was a little bit stressed out what with the exhibition and the house moving situation (which is officially happening!), so I’ve been meaning to write up a post about the show but couldn’t find the time until now!

For the past few months there was a slightly lull in terms of organising things; until a month before the show I was emailing blogs to list our exhibition as well as getting my own things ready all at the same time. Needless to say the night before the opening we all came in to put our work up (obligatory action shot photos here):

Working

We had a few things to do before the opening such as getting flyers prepped and the buying the drinks ready to go for the evening; happy to say that all went well and the private view was so much fun! It was great to see everyone again plus we had a giveaway raffle too- messed it up slightly but Emily helped out so it was ok! The biggie prize for the night was two tickets to the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition Show 2016, which the winner wasn’t there by the time we announced it so I had to post it to her the next day.

I really enjoyed curating the show and would love to curate another show in the future. I learnt a lot about myself in terms of organising tasks effectively, time management, keeping communication lines open plus delegating tasks to others as sometimes I lack confidence in that area.

For now though there’s no rest for us as we’re moving next weekend so we have loads of stuff to pack and get rid of! I can put my feet up and do nothing once we’ve moved, which I’m super excited about. I’ll keep you all updated about it (maybe even photos included too!)

Tropical Safari Flyer

Hi all, hope you’re enjoying the gorgeous weather wherever you are and apologies for the hiatus as I’ve been fairly busy… However, I’m happy to finally announce that I’m part of a group exhibition at A-side B-side Gallery, which will take place from 9-14 June. I’m super chuffed to be exhibiting with some good friends of whom I’ve previously exhibited with for ‘Sorted London’ and ‘The Picture Show’. I designed the flyer for the show, I tried to keep it to the theme with the layout of the text clear and simple.

There’s going to be a raffle giveaway during the Private View- so definitely not to be missed! Proceeds will go towards Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand; a charity that works tirelessly to promote conversation and safe sanctuary for endangered species.

For more information about the exhibition and the location please follow the link here.

I’ve shown some of my work there before when I was part of Into the Sun and House of Tigers last year. Now it feels even more real as the date for the exhibition is beginning to creep up on me…

In other news- albeit unrelated to the exhibition- Sam and I are in the process of buying a house so everything at the moment has been slightly hectic and manic.

I’m going to leave it there and I’ll post photos of my work once the exhibition is on. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Sam and I spent six days in Berlin and I was looking forward to getting away from London for a bit! I’m a learning support assistant at a school in Waterloo, which means I get school holidays, which is pretty sweet. I currently have two weeks off so we decided to go away for a couple of days.

We stayed at our friend’s flat, Till, in Kreuzberg and spent the next couple of days exploring Berlin, plus drinking loads of coffee and checking out bars and pubs (of course). Till and his girlfriend gave us an extensive list of where to go to eat, shop and drink- the list was pretty spot on too!

I found Berlin to be an incredibly exciting city to be in. Compared to London, it’s so much more laid back and everyone seems to be so chilled out. I find London incredibly exhausting at times, whereas in Berlin I didn’t feel that at all. The streets felt quite empty as well, but perhaps that’s because the roads and pavements are so much more wider. Either way, most of the time we were on foot, depending on where we were going, and I really enjoyed just walking around and taking everything in.

I had an amazing time in Berlin and would love to go back again!

Berlin

Hello all and I hope you’ve had a wonderful start to the New Year! Sorry for the lack of updates, but I’ve recently started a new job at an autism school as a learning support assistant. I’m still trying to find my feet in terms of working one to one with some of the children and knowing the daily routine. But I’m enjoying it so far so let’s see how everything goes in the next few months.

I’d like to share with you all some latest work for Advocate Art. I was asked to create a series of images: one for a special occasion, which I chose to do ‘thank you’ cards and the other one was to develop a lion character for a few occasions. It really pushed me to think more creatively and to produce work for a commercial market. So the work is sort of different to my personal work, however, it’s been a good experience to be able to make work for a larger audience.

Happy Birthday

Merry Christmas Lion

With these ones, I initially had a character already in place and Advocate Art wanted me to take the lion character on further and to develop new images for Christmas and birthdays. This was aimed at adults with a humorous side to it. Hence the funny poses and facial expressions, which was all slightly new to me! I drew up mock up thumbnails and sent them over to Advocate Art for them to be approved before colouring them in digitally using Photoshop. It took several sketches to work out the poses so I spent a lot of time figuring that out.

As for the ‘thank you cards’, the process was pretty much the same. I always start drawing out my ideas in my sketchbook and once I’m happy with the initial drawing I’ll then colour it in either in Photoshop or Illustrator.

Thank You

After feedback from Advocate Art I’ll make a few changes and then off it goes again!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post! I normally don’t write how I work (mainly because I’m lazy…!), or I don’t have the time to take photos of the process.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I’ll keep you all posted on more new work coming up in the next few weeks!

I’ve spent the last couple of days piling on the food in Newcastle and at home and currently recovering from it all! We took the cats up to Newcastle as no one in London was available to look after them. Nether less, after a good couple of days hiding in one room they’re certainly, shall we say, a lot more bolder than before! They’ve settled into Sam’s mum’s house for the time being, but will be heading back to London over the New Year. now they’re lounging around in the living room (as you can see from the photos, Mario, posing for a photo!).

I shall be back in full swing of things what with my new job and illustration work- all new and exciting happenings, which is a positive start to the New Year.

I’d just like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May the New Year bring you good health, happiness and exciting things!
